Our Beginnings

The Guild grew out of a group project initiated by the Peter Tavy Village Hall committee, who secured funding for a series of workshops in spinning and tapestry weaving with Bobbie Cox, an internationally known artist from the village. This group was then sponsored by the Village Hall to continue meeting, until the Guild was formed in 1998. We keep this link to Peter Tavy village, even though the venue has changed to larger premises in Mary Tavy village a few miles away. The link to Peter Tavy is seen as important, and is continued by:

  • having a presence at the annual Peter Tavy Village Fayre.
  • by inviting the community and hall committee to our exhibitions,
  • by submitting articles to The Peter Tavy Piper magazine.

A condition of the initial funding was that we held an exhibition of members' work. We aim to continue doing this biennially, when all members are able to submit work, and our local community has an opportunity to enjoy the exhibits and perhaps try their hand at our crafts.
